  Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

  Your adventure begins in Entebbe, Uganda, where our professional guide will meet you and escort you to the domestic terminal of Entebbe International Airport. You will board a light aircraft operated by Aerolink for your approximately one-hour flight to Kisoro Airstrip, located in southwestern Uganda near the border with Rwanda. As you soar over the lush, green landscapes, enjoy panoramic views of the African countryside, from rolling hills to thick tropical rainforests.

  Upon landing at Kisoro, you will be greeted by our experienced English-speaking guide, who will provide a short briefing about what to expect during your stay. From Kisoro, you will embark on a scenic drive through the captivating hills of Kigezi, known as the “Switzerland of Africa” due to its picturesque beauty. The drive takes you deeper into the highlands, where the steep slopes are dotted with terraced farms and traditional homesteads.

  Your destination for the day is your lodge nestled in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Known for its misty atmosphere, dense undergrowth, and towering trees, this UNESCO World Heritage site is home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Upon arrival, you will have an early check-in, allowing you ample time to relax after your journey.

  For the rest of the afternoon, you have two exciting options. You can unwind at the lodge, soaking in the peaceful sounds of the surrounding rainforest, or embark on an optional local community tour. This tour offers you the chance to interact with the local people, including the Batwa pygmies, who once lived in these forests before being displaced in 1991 to protect the gorillas’ habitat. Learn about their unique culture, history, and the skills they used to survive in the wild. This experience provides a rare opportunity to connect with the indigenous people who share this land with the gorillas.

  In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and a restful night, with the anticipation of the next day’s adventure building up.

  Day 2: Gorilla Tracking Day

  The second day of your journey is the highlight of your trip — the day you finally encounter the magnificent mountain gorillas. After an early breakfast, your guide will drive you to the starting point for the day’s gorilla tracking adventure. Here, you will receive a comprehensive briefing from experienced park rangers about the rules and guidelines for gorilla tracking. The excitement in the air is palpable as you prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  Accompanied by a team of expert ranger guides and armed rangers, you will begin your trek into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The terrain can be challenging as you navigate through thick vegetation, steep hills, and muddy paths, but the anticipation of meeting the gorillas keeps you moving. The length of the trek varies depending on the location of the gorilla family, but it can take anywhere from one to several hours. Along the way, your guides will share their knowledge of the forest, pointing out other wildlife and plant species unique to this ecosystem.

  And then, the moment arrives. You find yourself face-to-face with a family of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The experience of watching these gentle giants up close is nothing short of awe-inspiring. You will have one full hour to observe the gorillas as they go about their daily activities — feeding, grooming, playing, and interacting with one another. Seeing the resemblance between humans and these magnificent creatures is humbling and emotional. You may even witness a playful juvenile tumbling through the undergrowth or the dominant silverback asserting his authority.

  After your magical hour with the gorillas, you will retrace your steps back to the starting point, filled with the satisfaction of having fulfilled a dream shared by many wildlife enthusiasts around the world.

  In the late afternoon, you will return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the incredible experience. Take in the sights and sounds of the rainforest as you enjoy dinner, and perhaps share stories of your day’s adventures with fellow travelers.

  Day 3: Departure

  As the dawn breaks on your final day, the memories of your time spent with the gorillas linger in your mind. After breakfast, it’s time to bid farewell to the enchanting Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will begin your two-hour drive back to Kisoro Airstrip, winding through the lush hills that have now become familiar. This drive offers a final chance to soak in the breathtaking landscapes of the Kigezi Highlands, with the morning mist clinging to the mountains and the air fresh and crisp.

  Upon arrival at Kisoro Airstrip, you will board your Aerolink flight back to Entebbe, reflecting on the incredible experiences of the past two days. As you fly over Uganda’s stunning landscapes, you can’t help but feel a deep sense of fulfillment, knowing you’ve witnessed one of the most extraordinary wildlife experiences on earth.

  Once you land in Entebbe, our guide will be waiting to welcome you back. You will either be transferred to your hotel if you are staying an extra night or assisted with your international departure. As you leave Uganda, you will carry with your memories of a life-changing adventure, knowing that the time spent in the presence of the mountain gorillas will forever hold a special place in your heart.
